SEP Commercial Pilot's Licence (CPL)
A commercial pilots licence is professional qualification and brings with it the rewards you have trained hard for. Once you have completed and passed your CPL you will be able to gain financially from your flying, however you will not be able to operate in an environment that involves flight in bad weather such as airline flying without an additional instrument rating. You will be able to fly in roles such as aerial survey, crop spraying, parachuting and flight instruction (subject to holding a valid FI rating). Should you wish to fly airliners, business jets etc you would need to complete a Multi Engine and Instrument Rating (IR) after completing your CPL.
What are the experience and training requirements
Prior to commencement of your training you would need to have amassed a total experience level of 150 hours of which 100 hours must be as pilot in command. (See our hour building page for the lowest cost ways to build your experience click here.)
For the issue of your CPL you will need to pass 14 theoretical examinations and undergo 25 hours of flight training. You will also need a Class 1 Medical.
The theoretical examinations consist of:
• Air Law
• General Navigation
• Aircraft General Knowledge
• Operational Procedures
• Flight Performance and Planning
• Principles of Flight
• Human Performance and Limitations
• Communications (VFR)
• Meteorology
Please note that these written examinations cannot be conducted at Flight Academy Wolverhampton. They can be taken at Bristol Groundschool either on a full-time basis or via distance learning.
The flight training consists of:
• 20 Hours training on a simple single engine.
• 5 Hours training on a complex single engine.
Our commercial training is offered in your choice of Cessna 152 and Piper Arrow or Cirrus SR20 G3 GTS and Piper Arrow.
On completion of your training you would then need to take and pass the flight test with a CAA examiner.
The CPL is valid for 5 years and is renewed by sending off a valid class or type rating to the CAA.
How much will it cost?
The price you pay for your training also depends on the type of aircraft you wish to fly. All of our prices include VAT and airways charges so there are no hidden charges.

CPL/SEP Packages
Buying a package is by far the most cost-effective way of funding your
training. The course costs include your navigation fees, but do not
include approach, landing or touch & go fees. Our packages include:
- 25 Hours instruction in our well equipped aircraft
- Groundschool for all pre-flight and post flight briefs and de-briefs
- 170A test fee
